Book vs. Movie

July 9, 2016

Any avid reader like me knows that the book is ALWAYS better than the movie.  Sometimes there are surprises; movies that are equally as charming as the books.  (Bridges of Madison County, Dear John and The Devil Wears Prada all have a special place in my heart.)

Every once in a while though, a movie comes along that truly upholds the magic of a beloved book.  A movie that successfully brings to life a beautiful story without compromising the integrity of the written word.  For me, that movie is Me Before You.  Based on the heart-wrenching, mascara-smearing novel by the gifted JoJo Moyes, the movie adaptation could not have been more perfect.  It honored the bookand its fansby staying true to the story we all adored.

Sam Clafin was heart-breakingly gorgeous and charming as Will, and Emilia Clarke was quirky, funny and adorable as Louisa.  In short, I loved every minute of this movie.  I was completely captivated by the locations, the music, the dialogue and don’t even get me started on Louisa’s shoes.  My only regret is that I didn’t bring enough tissues with me and had to resort to using the sleeve of my jacket, much to the horror of my teenage daughter who accompanied me.

So to the team of gifted individuals who brought a book near and dear to my heart to the big screen, I say, bravo!  As with the book, I’ll never be the same again . . . in a good way, of course.
